Christmas brunch

We had our ward Christmas brunch last weekend and took a few pics. Jack was a hit with all the old ladies in the ward and Ethan met Santa for the first time!

How could something so cute be so ugly?!

Nate and I were invited to an "ugly sweater Christmas party" last weekend and after scouring my closet I could not find a single ugly sweater ;) So we made a quick trip to our local value village, and surprisingly had trouble finding just the right thing there. Until... we spotted this bathrobe with teddy bears and snowflakes, what a gem! So I cut it in half and sewed the top part to create Nate's "Christmas in the alps" sweater, and made the bottom half into a matching vest for myself. We won the "ugliest homemade Christmas sweater" award! I think Nate's sportin' the red turtleneck pretty well, he could be a trend setter this winter :)

Our tree is up

Err...I mean pictures of our tree are now up on our blog. Marilee noted that the title was slightly misleading given that our tree went up right after Thanksgiving :)

Check out this recipe

Very delicious: Baked French Toast Casserole

I'm going to be making this for the first time today to take to our ward's Christmas brunch tomorrow morning so I'll let you know how it turns out!

Fun with lenses

My good friend at work let me borrow some nifty lenses to try out. Here is on pic I took with his 30mm lens (settings are 1/2000s f/1.4 with a Nikon D5000):

Christmas at our house...

I went outside today during the boys' naps and cut some holly sprigs and pine branches to decorate my entry table. I was so happy with how pretty it turned out. Maybe there's something to be said for all those magazine articles that told me to bring some nature into my home for the holidays :)
We also decorated a holiday choo choo train for FHE on Monday night, so I'm posting some pictures of that as well. Ethan was eating the candy off almost as fast as we could put it on, so it was an interesting process!

Ethan jumps a lot

Recently Ethan has greatly enjoyed jumping off one of our bar stools onto a pile of blankets. Here are a few action shots that prove things are crazy-fun at our house ;)

Portland Thanksgiving

We spent our Thanksgiving in Portland this year and enjoyed a lot of family time together. We really appreciated having new friends for Ethan to play with (aka Grandparents and Ty!) Here are some pictures from our visit.

Ethan really loves Cars. Here are some pictures of him, The King, and The King's mommy ;)

Mmmm...

Havarti cheese and apple slices grilled together make a delicious sandwich! You should give it a try when you're tired of the original grilled cheese, you may not ever go back :)
A little tip: it helps to slice the apples fairly thin and grill them for a minute before putting them in the sandwich.

Ethan can sort of sing!

None of you will find this quite as cute as Marilee and I do, but you may laugh a little. Ethan's doing a great job learning to sing and pronounce difficult words...like words with the letter "L" in them.

Now on to the next holiday!

I was doing a little blog perusing (similar to window shopping, don't you think?) and I found this. The danger of blog perusing is that I often find things I didn't know I needed or wanted, but suddenly I wonder how I've gone this long without it! This little find caught my eye, and even though I told myself "no more crafts until you catch up on scrapbooks!"... well, I just might have to make an exception :)
